Nelson Minar: “The Xbox 360 is a dry run for “Trusted Computing”. The new console has a slew of anti-modder technology to make it impossible to run unauthorized software. Who authorizes Xbox 360 software? Microsoft.”
Of course Nelson works for Google- I met him a few years back. And of course Google is immune to DRM, right? Or are they?
What will happen when Google video wants to offer more content including video on-demand? Does anyone believe that the publishers will simply let them run with this and have it be ad supported with no limitations? Nelson may want to complain about what Microsoft, Intel, or Dell are doing to protect digital content. But those companies are only doing what software publishers and content creators are asking for. And if Google wants to be a player on the web going forward and provide content to billions of users, they’ll soon begin to understand DRM as well. It isn’t going to go away.
