Indie blog search dead?

Jason Calacanis: “Half of the indie blog search engines will shut down, go out of business, or just stagnate as the major portals take over this space.”

A bunch of Jason’s predictions seem like “look at how smart I am for selling to AOL”, but this one really resonates. There is just no need or demand for all of the disparate indie blog search tools. People want to start using more authoritative tools with predictable service levels. I’m not sure which tools with survive and which ones will flourish, but my guess is that users will flock to those with new and useful services (aggregation and publishing don’t count).
