It is very cool that Jim AllchinĀ had another dinner with bloggers to discuss Microsoft’s direction. The last one was early in 2005.
These dinners sound great, but I think it would be cooler to do it outside of San Francisco. How about tech bloggers on the East Coast or the Midwest? I can think of at least a half dozen places where that dinner would be valuable. I’m taking nothing away from San Francisco or the people that attended the dinner. I would just like to see more people and points of view included.

The problem is that Jim doesn’t like to travel and only gets around when he has to do press tours. Unfortunately in the tech business that means San Francisco. I only had a week warning too to put it together.
The other reality? This industry is highly centralized in the valley. I just met three guys who moved their company here just to be in the network that exists here.

Robert- agreed on the industry centralization. But the types of feedback that Jim needs should come not only from Silicon Valley. The word “echo chamber” comes to mind…

Fair enough Chris- I’m more interested in Jim getting the benefit of other points of view. The people that work with him ought to consider getting outside of SF- if I host a dinner where I’m at it is highly unlikely that Jim would attend. If Scoble reads this, maybe he’ll say something.
