Web 2.0 trademark

Cory Doctorow: "O'Reilly needs to choose whether it's going to retain control the word "Web 2.0" for conferences, or retain control over the shifts that created the Web 2.0 phenomenon."

I'm shocked that I agree with Cory here. It is very likely that there is no real trademark here for O'Reilly- certainly not within the spirit of what trademarks were intended for. O'Reilly is such a good communicator for these types of ideas that they end up transcending any conference or media specific branding. I'll be interested to hear from Tim when he returns from vacation.
