Microsoft acquires Winternals

c|net: “Microsoft on Tuesday said it has bought Winternals Software, a small maker of Windows utility programs, in a deal that the software maker hopes will add key technical talent to its operating system development team… Russinovich will be focused on helping Microsoft further develop the Windows kernel in his role as technical fellow.”

Excellent news. For those that don’t remember, Mark Russinovich discovered the infamous Sony rootkit. It will be great to see the next generation of innovation in Windows development being assisted by some really talented people coming from outside of the company that can bring some new perspective to the challenges of operating systems development.
