YouTube’s Quick Capture feature- does it change the landscape of video blogging?

Posted by: Randy Holloway on: December 9, 2006

As reported by Jacqui Cheng on ars technica, YouTube has released a new feature called Quick Capture that enables users with webcams to directly upload to YouTube without using any video capture or encoding tools outside of the web browser. Some speculate that this may make YouTube more popular, but I disagree.

As we’ve seen with podcasting, the novelty of video blogging quickly wears off and only the shows with quality content and production values will gain audience. What Quick Capture might promote is more “one time” video bloggers just as tools like Blogger once did for traditional weblogging. But once the first post is up and the novelty wears off for the new video blogger, those that are serious will use tools to make the best quality videos and those that aren’t will simply let their YouTube account whither on the vine.
