Google wants Wikipedia traffic

Posted by: Randy Holloway on: December 13, 2007

“Knol”, a new service from Google, is designed to get people to “contribute knowledge” on various topics and is targeted as a destination for first-time searchers on various topics. Obviously inspired by Wikipedia, this appears to be a way for Google to take traffic from Wikipedia since so many Wikipedia pages appear in the top results for so many search terms.
