Olympics coverage falls short for Usain Bolt

While we’ve been inundated with coverage of USA basketball, Michael Phelps and women’s gymnastics at the 2008 Summer Games, there are some stories falling through the cracks of the seemingly non-stop 24×7 coverage.

Usain Bolt of Jamaica’s world record performance in the men’s 100 meter dash is nowhere to be found. A visit to Bolt’s profile on the official olympics web site has no clip of his heroic performance where he broke stride 2/3 of the way through the race in triumph, failing to run as hard as he could and still breaking the world record.

With all of the coverage of the Olympics this year, I can’t think of any good reason why the coverage fell short here.

Because he’s not American. The race was hyped when NBC thought that Gay might win or come in second.

Since that didn’t happen their coverage faded. Typical.

They should understand that we want to see the BEST compete – Americans and non-Americans.
